Track and Field

In Eugene at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field they have All Comer's meets for kids every Wednesday during the summer. This past Wednesday we took the kids.

Little Miss competed in the long jump and 60 meter dash.

Leo did the softball "shotput" throw. He threw so far they couldn't even tell him his distance because he threw beyond the marker. We know he threw further than 50 feet. Leo also competed in the 60 meter dash and long jump.

Midge did the long jump, 400 meter where she scored 2nd place and the 1500 meter where she scored 1st for her age group.

This is a shot of Midge in the 1500 meter (this is 3 3/4 laps around the track). Her time was 7:14. She was on 7:46 mile pace. Let me emphasize that my 8 year old daughter can beat me in a race, and not just beat me but destroy me.

Busy Summer Days

Ken did our annual "Fishes and the Loaves" Lesson for family home evening. So there was more fishes than loaves. As soon as we arrived Leo promptly scared the fish away by throwing rocks at them.

Ken loves teaching the kids how to fly fish on their own. He is a great teacher and very patient with them. His dream is to have all of our kids be expert fishermen/women.

We ended up catching a tiny native, which the kids played with and threw back.

The kids also had fun seeing a beaver and a nutrea.

We then took the kids to the fish hatchery to see the big fish.

All week the kids have been wanting to have a snowcone booth. The kids did pretty well and several people stopped by to get some.

Little Miss enjoyed drinking most of the product.

Earlier this week our friends invited the kids over to swim. Even baby Huck got in the pool.
